Farmers can report prevented planting acreage to the Jefferson/Sevier/Cocke Farm Service Agency Office, according to Ronnie Denton, chairperson of the local FSA Committee. Prevented planting is the inability to plant the intended crop acreage with proper equipment by the final planting date for the crop because of a natural disaster.

Denton said, “FSA regulations require producers who request prevented planting credit to report the applicable acreage to FSA on form FSA-578 (Report of Acreage) and file form CCC-576 (Notice of Loss) within 15 calendar days after the final planting date for the crop”.

However, for 2013 FSA has changed the process due to disaster conditions by extending the various planting reporting deadlines for requesting prevented planting for Tennessee to coincide with the final crop acreage reporting date of July 15, 2013.

Denton said “farmers can visit the local FSA office through July 15, 2013 and complete FSA-578 and CCC-576 to apply for prevented planting credit”.

Prevented planting acreage reported on CCC-576 and FSA-578 after July 15, 2013 may be subject to late filing fees.
