Purple Roses

My daughter and I love roses and we want to use a variety for her upcoming wedding. My friend is convinced that it is inappropriate to use purple roses for mother and mother in law corsages. Is there a reason that we should stay away from purple?

Your friend is most likely concerned that deep purple is consider a sign of intimacy. A medium purple, however, can be a sign of eternal love. A lighter purple, such as lavender, is a symbol of the beginning of true feelings. If you are really concerned about the symbolism of color, perhaps you could tip a white rose with purple or use an alternate type of flower. Although the symbolic color of roses was observed in years past, we live in a less formal time. The most important thing is that your daughter and you like the flowers that you use at the wedding. Certainly, those attending the wedding will be much more concerned with her happiness on her wedding day than if the rose colors are appropriate.
