BARBARA DAWN ADAMS HOLT

BARBARA DAWN ADAMS HOLT, age 80, of Jefferson City, TN passed away on July 9, 2013 at her home with her family by her side, after a four year battle with breast cancer. Barbara was born in south Knoxville and grew up in the Ridgedale community. She graduated from Central High School and the University of Tennessee with a B.S. and M.S. in Art Education. She retired from the Jefferson County School System and was a member of the Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association, where she served as president, secretary, and scholarship chairman. She was a member of the Knoxville Central High School Class of 1950 Board of Directors, where she served as president, secretary and scholarship chairman. She was a member of the Strawberry Plains FCE, where she served as president and vice president. She was an avid Lady Vols basketball fan and traveled with her friend Susan Patton to all games and tournaments. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Harold “Tom” Holt, and infant son, Steven Mark Holt. Remaining to celebrate her life are her three daughters, Diana Dawn Holt Goodwin of Dominican Republic, Patricia Denise Holt Waterman of Niceville, FL. Kelly Delynn Holt Eden (Herb) of Chattanooga, TN; granddaughter, Erika Brianne Holt of North Lauderdale, FL; sisters-in-law, Josephine Holt Webb (James) of Cleveland, TN, and Shirle Holt Conover (Jim) of Knoxville, TN; favorite niece, Terri Cogdill McDonald, husband Darryl and son Dean of Duluth, GA; nephews, Ray Alan Cogdill (Penny) of Lawrenceville, GA and Garry Cogdill of Gainesville, GA; and a number of nieces and nephews in Greeneville, TN. The family wishes to give special thanks to dear friends, Martha Moore who was with her through her entire journey with breast cancer, Barbara Ann and O. K. Thigpen, Jr. who have remained constant companions since high school, Doris Vineyard, high school friend and traveling companion, Peggy Hull who offered support and constant friendship, and Karen and Eli Matijevich who ensured Mom was well taken care of. The family wishes to thank Dr. Lance Patton and Covenant Hospice for their care. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2013 at Greenwood Cemetery.
