Rehabilitation of I-40 Bridge in Jefferson County Continues – Traffic Alert, August 11, 2013

Lane closures at bridge near Mile Marker 424 to begin on Sunday, August 11

On Sunday, August 11th, lane closures will begin on the I-40 Bridge over the French Broad River in Jefferson County, near Mile Marker 424.

One lane will remain open for eastbound and westbound traffic. Motorists should be aware that backups are likely during peak travel hours.

Lane closures are expected to remain in place for the next two years.

A detour route is in place for wide loads:

  • For eastbound traffic, wide loads must Exit 424 in Dandridge, take SR 113 to US 25W/SR 9 to Newport, and then back to I-40 East at Exit 432A.
  • For westbound traffic, wide loads must take I-40 at Exit 432A in Newport and follow US 25W/SR 9 to SR 113, and then back to I-40 West at Exit 424.
