Travelers looking to access the Gatlinburg Bypass will notice single lanes during the daylight hours and complete closure from 8 pm to 7 am Sunday night through Friday morning, beginning August 19thCharles Blalock and Sons will be resurfacing the bypass and parking areas from August 19th until September 27th. Construction will break for October, which sees increased traffic on the bypass due to changing leaves, and resume in November. No road work will be done on weekends or holidays, as well. Motorists should expect daytime single lane closures until May of 2014, while crews replace guardrails and do shoulder work on the bypass. In addition, the road between the Chimney’s Picnic Area and Newfound Gap Road area will be under construction starting August 15, 2013 and continuing until spring of 2014. No work will be done during the month of October and Federal Holidays to alleviate congestion during peak times. Motorists can expect daytime single lane closures in the area and should plan accordingly.
