Vols Unveil New Uniforms
They call it “smokey” gray, a catchy color in the shadow of the Great Smokey Mountains. First year Volunteer head football coach Butch Jones introduced a fresh albeit old color into the Big Orange fashion playbook. The Vols will wear smokey gray uniforms for a home game this year. The new threads are a nod to the past, reminding many of the gray uniforms worn in Tennessee’s early years, and a push toward the future. Current players and recruits love the alternate look, which features a dark gray jersey and dark gray pants trimmed in orange, including a power T. The jerseys have orange numbers. The new look goes hand in hand with a new spirit on The Hill and only time, and wins, will tell whether smokey gray is a fad or whether it takes a place among UT’s storied traditions.
