PHYLLIS ELIZABETH TRENHOLM RAINWATER

The family of Phyllis Elizabeth Trenholm Rainwater sadly announces her death on Thursday, September 12, 2013. She was born March 8, 1918, the second child of Edith Grace Howell Trenholm and Charles Victor Trenholm. Mrs. Rainwater was preceded in death by her parents; husband of over 62 years, Chester Samuel Rainwater, Jr.; sister and brother-in-law, Phoebe Trenholm Rose and Fred Arthur Rose; and niece, Alice Rose Watkins. She grew up on Island Home Blvd. in Knoxville, was graduated from Knoxville High School, Class of 1936, and the University of Tennessee in 1940 with a Bachelor of Science degree. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and, after graduation, a home economist with Knoxville Utility Board (KUB). Her late husband was an attorney in Dandridge, then Chancellor for the 4th Judicial District. She was a member of Dandridge First United Methodist Church where she served as teacher, choir member and officer. She enjoyed her time with Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, received lifetime honorary memberships in the Tennessee Congress and National Congress of Parents and Teachers, member of Martha Dandridge Garden Club, and Master Gardener certification through the University of Tennessee. She is survived by daughter, Marlene and son-in-law David McClellan of Dandridge; son, Sanford Trenholm Rainwater of Dandridge; grandchildren, Robert H. McClellan and wife Raechel of Matthews, N.C.; John D. McClellan and wife Jennifer of Albuquerque, New Mexico; great-grandchildren Alexander, Olivia, Stephen, and Michael; nieces Ann Rose Wheeler of Pikeville, TN and Gail Rose Beech of Lewisburg, TN. The family will receive friends Sunday, September 15, 2013 at the Dandridge First United Methodist Church from 1:00 – 3:00 P.M. followed by the funeral service at 3:00 P.M. with Dr. Jay Ferguson officiating. Interment services will be held Monday, September 16, 2013, 9:30 A.M in the East Tennessee State Veteran’s Cemetery where her husband was interred in 2005. Pallbearers: David McClellan, Robert McClellan, John McClellan, Sanford Rainwater, Fred S. (Skip) Wheeler, Bobby Beech, Troy Layton, and Neil Beech.
