Night of the Patriots 2013 is a patriotic celebration that showcases student talent and honors local veterans for their many contributions to our nation, including our freedom and national security.  The celebration includes a 90 minute show on Thursday, November 7 at 7:00 PM in the Jefferson County High School Gym.  Performances by the Patriot Marching Band include a musical tribute to each branch of the military. Drama and Choral students have coordinated to showcase popular theatrical and musical segments from previous shows. Dance Team, Cheerleaders, and other groups will contribute their own patriotic performances.  JROTC will pay tribute to POW/MIA/KIA with a moving ceremony that brings to bare the sacrifices of fallen soldiers throughout history.

In preparation for the program, all students at Jefferson County High School have been encouraged to discuss patriotic issues with their families, especially those participating in the Voice of Democracy Contest, sponsored by the local VFW.  The contest involves writing and recording a 5 minute essay on a specific theme announced earlier this year by the National VFW Office.  This year’s theme is “Why I am optimistic about the future of our nation”.  Essays will be judged by the VFW and winners will be announced during the Veteran’s Recognition portion of the program.  A small number of local veterans will be introduced to the audience.  All veterans are invited to enjoy a free chili supper before the show, sponsored by local businesses.
This year will be the 21st annual performance of Night of the Patriots.
