State Treasurer Lillard Earns National Recognition From His Peers

Tennessee State Treasurer David H. Lillard, Jr. received the prestigious Jesse M. Unruh Award this week at the National Association of State Treasurers (NAST) Annual Conference in Asheville, North Carolina.

The award is given each year to a state treasurer who has demonstrated outstanding service to the association, the profession and his or her state. Members of NAST’s executive committee select the winner.

NAST is a bipartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting best financial practices, sound public fiscal policy and education for state Treasurers throughout the United States.

“The association voted to award Treasurer Lillard this distinguished award because of his commitment to NAST and the Tennessee Treasury,” said Maryland State Treasurer Nancy Kopp, who chairs NAST’s legislative committee. “Treasurer Lillard received multiple nominations for this very deserving award. No wonder why the vote was unanimous – it was so well deserved!”

Also at the conference, Treasurer Lillard was also elected the association’s Senior Vice President. He formerly served as the organization’s secretary/treasurer. Treasurer Lillard is also chairman of the State Debt Management Network.

“Treasurer Lillard is a tremendous asset not only to the State of Tennessee, but to NAST as well,” said Oklahoma State Treasurer Ken Miller, vice president of NAST’s southern region. “His rich background of experiences make him a great resource for all state treasurers. This award and his new position within NAST are both well deserved.”

“I am humbled and honored to receive this recognition from my peers,” Treasurer Lillard said. “NAST is an organization that is committed to promoting sound fiscal policy that results in better government and quality of life for the citizens of the states we represent. I am thankful for the award and I look forward to serving in this new leadership role with NAST.”
