Cyndi Lauper to perform at Tennessee Theater, November 7, 2013

Cyndi LauperOne of the most iconic superstars of the 1980s and 1990s, Cyndi Lauper, is coming to Knoxville. Lauper is best known for such memorable songs as “She-bop”, “Goonies”, “Girls just want to have fun”, “True Colors” and many more.

Lauper has sold more than 50 million albums worldwide and has established herself as an author, activist, TV and movie star and Broadway composer.

Lauper has racked up numerous awards for her music including 14 Grammy nominations, a Grammy, and an Emmy. Lauper has appeared in numerous movies and TV shows including “The Simpsons.” Her album, “She’s so unusual” was included in Rolling Stone Magazines top 500 albums of all time. The magazine also named Lauper to the top 100 women of rock and roll. Lauper has been featured on the cover of Rolling Stone, Time and Newsweek.

She participated in the recording of the song “We are the world” which raised awareness to the famine that griped Africa in the 1980s.

“It’s not about what people think of me, but what I learned along the way. And if telling the story of what I went through can help someone else, then it’s worth it.” Looking to the future, Cyndi will once again turn back to her first love — music.

Lauper’s current tour the “She’s so unusual tour” celebrates the 30th anniversary of her album by the same name. Lauper has remained a powerful force in the music industry since she burst onto the music scene in the 1980s and will perform many of the songs that made her a rock and roll lexicon at the Tennessee Theater in Knoxville located at 604 South Gay Street on Nov 6, at 8 p.m.
