Melissa Moore Appointed District Child Support Magistrate

Melissa Moore has been appointed by Duane Slone, Presiding Judge of the Fourth Judicial District, serving Cocke, Grainger, Jefferson, and Sevier Counties, as the District’s Child Support Magistrate.

Ms. Moore shall be administered her oath of office on January 22nd, 2014, at 8:30 a.m. at the Sevier County Courthouse, Circuit Court, in Sevierville, Tennessee.

Melissa Moore completed her undergraduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1996 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. During college, she had the opportunity to intern for the United States Department of Justice and the US Attorney’s Office Homicide Division.

Ms. Moore earned her law degree from Campbell University Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law in North Carolina in 2000. While in law school, she interned with the Wake County District Attorney’s office and gained valuable real world legal and trial experience. Ms. Moore was also a member of the National Trial Team during her years in law school and successfully competed in national competitions earning the Best Advocate Award.

After graduating from law school and successfully passing the bar, Melissa Moore began the private practice of law in November of 2000 with the firm of Marshall, Delius & Taylor in Sevierville, Tennessee. She practiced primarily family law in Circuit Court, Chancery Court and Juvenile Court throughout the Fourth Judicial District, as well as in Knox, Anderson, and Blount counties.

In March of 2004, Ms. Moore opened The Law Office of Melissa Moore, PLLC, focusing primarily on family law along with criminal law and civil litigation. She has been a Rule 31 Family Law Mediator since 2005 and has been admitted to practice in both State and Federal Courts of Tennessee. During her legal career she has been a member of the Sevier County Bar Association, serving as Secretary/Treasurer for 2006-2008. Additionally, Ms. Moore is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association, Family Law Section; the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers; the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers; and, a Member of the Legal Aid of East Tennessee Board of Directors, representing Sevier County.

Ms. Moore was appointed in 2007 by the Sevier County Juvenile Court to the position of Truancy Court Magistrate and has continued in that position until her appointment as Child Support Magistrate for the 4th Judicial District.

Ms. Moore is a native of Asheville, North Carolina and is the daughter of Michael and Jean Moore. She lives in Sevier County, Tennessee, and enjoys spending time with her husband Joe and their three dogs.
