Rocky Top Sports World, managed by The Sports Facilities Advisory, announced today that it has contracted to host 19 tournament events for the 2014-15 season. These will encompass a variety of sports including lacrosse, basketball, volleyball, soccer and football. Rocky Top Sports World General Manager, Steve Daugherty said, “These youth and amateur sporting events will bring 12,640 athletes, 17,460 spectators and 12,101 room nights to the Gatlinburg market in the first full year of operation,” Daugherty also commented that this is just the start. “We will continue to book events so we are confident that we will significantly exceed our original projections.”

Rocky Top Sports World Marketing Manager, Lori Moore, said “We have been working with rights holders, events owners and the SFA corporate offices for months to secure bookings. The fact that we are now pre- selling the space should give local lodging, attraction and restaurant owners a reason to celebrate.” Moore went on to say “this is a great testament to the vision of our City and County leaders who stepped out on a limb to bring this project to life.”

“Sevier County is very pleased to partner with the City of Gatlinburg on this great project,” said Sevier County Mayor Larry Waters, “just through these 19 events we are expecting over 30,100 participants and spectators which will generate a huge economic impact and provide new tax revenue for Gatlinburg and Sevier County.” Gatlinburg City Commissioner and Sports Advisory Committee Chair Mike Werner said, “The economic impact for Gatlinburg and Sevier County is going to be extremely positive. The fact that taxes from the project will benefit the school system is very important for the future of our area.”

The City of Gatlinburg and Sevier County are funding the $20 million sports tournament destination facility to add another dimension to the area’s existing appeal. The events will attract state, regional and national visitors to compete at the 80-acre complex and experience the world-class attractions, shopping and dining that Gatlinburg offers. Rocky Top Sports World will feature 7 outdoor fields, 6 basketball courts plus 4 more on site, and is configurable for 12 volleyball courts with 5 more on site.
