NEIL HEATHERLY APPOINTED CEO OF TENNOVA HEALTHCARE

Knoxville Native Brings Two Decades of Experience to the Position

Tennova Healthcare LogoTennova Healthcare announced system leadership transitions today. Effective March 3, Neil Heatherly will become Chief Executive Officer of the system of six hospitals and several physician clinics based in Knoxville. Heatherly will replace Mike Garfield who has announced his resignation and is working to ensure a smooth transition of leadership. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, Chairman M. Douglas Leahy M.D. thanked Garfield for his many contributions and service to the system.

Heatherly, a Knoxville native, has nearly 20 years of hospital management experience. He joined Community Health Systems in 2009 as vice president for Operations for hospitals in Tennessee and Pennsylvania. He was later appointed president of the Home Care Division, where he oversaw the operations of 80 affiliated home health agencies.  During his tenure, Heatherly contributed to increased quality measures and patient satisfaction as well as employee satisfaction and retention. Prior to joining CHS, Neil was CEO of StoneCrest Medical Center in Smyrna, Tennessee, where he successfully oversaw the construction of a new hospital and the achievement of significant accomplishments in quality results, patient satisfaction scores, and physician recruitment. He has also held several executive roles at hospitals in Tennessee, Texas and Georgia.

“I’m excited to join the team of highly qualified healthcare professionals at Tennova,” Heatherly said. “The system has all the right ingredients for success – locations throughout our community, advanced technology, and a dedicated team of physicians and employees. Combined with new resources made possible through affiliation with CHS, we’ll be able to further enhance the quality care already being provided to the Knoxville community.”

“Neil has a strong track record of positioning hospitals for success,” Leahy said. “His deep knowledge of hospital operations, combined with his familiarity with Knoxville, will support Tennova’s continued growth and work to provide our community with quality health care choices.”

Heatherly is a graduate of Farragut High School. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee and a master’s of Business Administration from Vanderbilt University.
