Letter To The Editor – Rural Clinic

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Submitted by: Ken Avent

Jefferson Rural Clinic, Inc.

This past Tuesday night, in a display of wonderfully unanimous support, the Jefferson County Commission and the Jefferson City Council voted to donate the building on Old AJ Highway to the Jefferson Rural Clinic which has occupied the facility under lease for 9 years. The discussion at the joint meeting was positive and affirming of the work that the clinic is doing and we are extremely grateful for this action. Their unity and courage to decide this issue together are indeed inspiring.

In addition, their expressions of support and their concrete action encourages us to continue with our mission of providing healthcare to those in Jefferson County who simply have no other alternatives.

From the beginning just over 9 years ago when Kathy Marshall had a dream of what could be, literally hundreds of people have come together to provide services at over 11,000 appointments for medical and dental care totaling well over $1.7 million dollars in value.

A special word of thanks is due to Alan Palmieri and Mark Potts. Both of them and those that work with them have been extremely supportive and I applaud them for their efforts and compassion for the residents of the city and county. To the members of both the Jefferson County Commission and the Jefferson City Council we extend our thanks for your vision and actions.

For all the many people who make this clinic work we extend our thanks.
