Work To Begin In Jefferson County Schools

Some Jefferson County Schools are slotted for work, as the Director of Transportation, Maintenance and Capitol Projects Phagan procured funding for several projects that had been postponed. Funding for the planned expenditures rolled into the School system fund balance at the end of the last fiscal year, which ended in June of 2012. Director of Jefferson County Finance Helton informed the Jefferson County Budget Committee and the Jefferson County School Board that he would be bringing a request to withdraw those funds for their intended usage during the current fiscal year.

Earlier in November, the School Board approved the movement of the funds, which amount to $389,950. The request passed the Budget Committee and the Full Body of the County Commission this month. On tap for Maintenance are the roof at Talbott ( $158,000), New Market Cooling Tower($122,000), JCHS Water-Budget Reduction Project ($36,000), Jefferson Elementary Windows in Cafeteria ($14,500), Rush Strong Erosion and Access Control ($12,000) Dandridge, New Market and White Pine Hand Washing Stations($12,850 per school) and a Dandridge Cooling Tower Control Panel($8,900). Schools are also in the process of rating maintenance needs to assist in the compiling of a master list of most direct needs in the County schools. That information is expected to be available to the School Board in the early part of the New Year.
