The Tennessee Library Association sponsored Tennessee Legislative Day in Nashville on March 5, 2014 for library advocates across the state to talk with elected officials. Secretary of State Tre Hargett was the keynote speaker at the opening event held at Nashville Public Library.  Hargett encouraged library staff to tell their stories to their senators and representatives.

Donna Phillips, Jefferson City Public Library Assistant Director, and Susan Simmons Byrne, Clinch River Regional Library Director, attended this event.  The two met with Senator Frank Niceley and Representative Andrew Farmer at the capitol where Phillips shared library statistics, photographs and events held at Jefferson City Public Library and Parrott-Wood Memorial Library.  Byrne discussed the progress of the new Jefferson City Public Library. They emphasized the importance of libraries in the community and thanked the legislators for their continuing support.
