Jefferson County Post 2014 Primary Debate

The Jefferson County Post will host a candidate debate on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 6:30 pm in the main courtroom of the Historic Jefferson County Courthouse. All candidates that will be on the May 6, 2014 ballot are invited to participate in this event. Candidates for the office of Jefferson County Mayor, Jefferson County Sheriff, Jefferson County Court Clerk and Jefferson County Trustee will debate in a traditional format, with questions submitted by constituents and vetted to assure a fair debate among candidates. Those that are candidates for uncontested offices will be introduced during the debate and those in contested judicial races will also be introduced but will not participate in the debate, due to the nature of the office.

Citizens are encouraged to submit questions to the Jefferson County Post via email at editor@jeffersoncountypost.com or in person at the office of the Jefferson County Post, 1237 Gay St., Dandridge (across the street from the Historic Jefferson County Courthouse). The deadline for submission is April 12, 2014. Questions will be drawn from a blind container by the moderator or his designee.

The order of candidate responses will be determined by the toss of a coin and each participant will be afforded 2 minutes per question response. Rebuttal time will be allocated at the discretion of the moderator. No questions will be taken from the public on the evening of the debate.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend the event and the debate will be taped for viewing on the Jefferson County Post.
