The Lady Patriots looked doomed for yet another loss because of errors Tuesday evening. Morristown West jumped out to a 4-1 lead after Jefferson County committed 3 errors in the second inning, one leading to an inside the park home run for the Lady Trojans.

After a stern talking to in the dugout after the third inning, Tara Garvin would step to the plate. “The one person you really want up after that is “big T”. She can take that anger and funnel it in a positive way.” Coach Massaro said. Well “Big T” did just that, She led off the fourth inning with a bomb over the centerfield wall, cutting the Trojan lead to 4-2. That sparked a fourth inning rally for the Lady Patriots, as they would score 6 runs in the inning and led after four, 7-4. The Lady Patriots were not done there, after a single and walk to lead off the fifth inning for Jefferson County, Shelby Winstead would slap a double back up the middle, followed by a pair of doubles by Madison Owens and Leslie Odom. The Lady Patriots would plate 7 runs in the top half of the fifth inning and take control of the contest 14-4. Morristown West was unable to plate a run in the bottom half of the fifth and the umpire called the ball game by run rule after 5 innings, 14-4.

“I’m glad the girls didn’t get down on themselves” Head Coach Bekkah Massaro said. She added, “They dug themselves a hole, but they dug themselves out of a hole.” She went on to say, “It shows a sign that we are growing and maturing as a team. Yeah, we committed some errors and we got down early, but we came back and hit and finished our job.”

The Lady Patriots were led at the dish by Paige Rosenbaum going 4-4 on the day with 2 singles and 2 doubles. Madison Owens pitched yet another magnificent game for the Lady Pats allowing just 6 hits and allowing 0 earned runs in the contest. Owens’ now has an ERA of 1.29 in 38 innings of work this season. The Lady Patriots improve to 3-8 on the season and return to action Thursday, as Sevier County comes to Dumplin Valley at 6pm.
