Free Diabetes Program Offered

The Take Charge of Your Diabetes Program is being offered in Sevier County through a partnership with UT Extension and Sevier County Health Department. Through this program, participants gain skills necessary to daily self-manage their diabetes and work effectively with heath care professionals. The program offers six informal, interactive classes covering a variety of topics relating to diabetes self-management.

Topics of the sessions include:

  • Understanding diabetes and monitoring blood sugar
  • Decreasing stress and relaxation strategies
  • Formula for healthy eating and carbohydrate facts
  • Dealing with the difficult emotions of chronic disease
  • Managing your medications

There is no cost to attend the Take Charge of Your Diabetes Program Series, due to a state grant. However, participants are expected to attend all six classes to gain knowledge and skills. A helpful resource book from Stanford University will be given each participant.

This Take Charge of Your Diabetes Workshop Series will be instructed at the King Family Public Library for 6 weeks, each Thursday from April 24 – May 29 from 9:30 to 11:30 am. Registration is needed. To register or if you have questions, please contact Linda Hyder with UT Extension – Sevier County at 865-453-3695 or lhyder@utk.edu.
