Judge Strand Awarded

Judge Ben Strand Award 04042014Judge Alfred Ben Strand was honored on Friday, April 4, 2014 by Senior Citizens Home Assistance Services at a dinner held at Stokely Memorial Cafeteria. He was presented with the Citizenship of the Year Award for his work in helping the elderly, and many others, during his long law career in Jefferson County. The crowd on hand to celebrate was welcomed by Trey Strand and the invocation was given by Reverend Robert McCray. A short presentation about the services provided by Senior Citizens Home Assistance Services, or SCHAS, was given by CEO Tim Howell. Following a fine meal, Judge Strand was then lovingly lauded by his sons Trey and Craig, his friend and peer Ed Miller, and presented with his award by longtime friend, Dr. John Zirkle. He graciously accepted the award, thanking his wife and family for their constant love and support. Judge Strand was a 1962 graduate of Carson Newman College, he received a B.S. degree from the University of Tennessee in 1964, and graduated from Samford University-Cumberland School of Law in 1967. The Judge became a jack-of-all-trades, and a master of them all. He has been a lawyer for over 45 years, and has served as a judge, a professor, and an advocate. Judge Strand has volunteered his time at Mountain View Youth Development Center and with both high school and college mock trial teams. Perhaps his most treasured roles have been those of husband, father, and grandfather. The night was a fitting honor for a man who has given so much to Jefferson County: a man who set out to help people and solve problems. Judge Strand has accomplished those things many times over and will always be a treasured asset to Jefferson County.
