Easter Memories Abound

Easter memories abound… so many years… so many memories. When my children were young, Easter always began with an egg hunt at the church on Saturday. It was an extravaganza with beautiful colored eggs, bunny snacks and prizes for all. This was my gift to the children of the church, and I gave with enthusiasm. What fun it was to watch each group go out to hunt and return giddy with joy over their finds. I have always been an admirer of the White House egg roll for the children. I love Easter Bunnies, Easter Parades and all Easter things that children love!

Sunday morning usually begins with a Sunrise Service. It is so moving to observe The Resurrection as the sun rises on the world. I love to praise The Lord with the song “He is Risen” and find it more poignant in the Sunrise Service setting. After filling my soul, there is the traditional breakfast with other early risers. Then, on to my kitchen to prepare my contribution to a family Easter lunch. A part of my ritual includes listening to the album “Jesus Christ Super Star”. I have always found the music to be emotionally telling of the great sacrifice made by my Lord and Savior. I sometimes throw in a piano piece or two, to complete my meditation.

Then, it was on to the food! And… what wonderful food my mother prepared. She was a great cook and dinning at her table was a blessing indeed! Besides the ham, chicken and dumplings and every vegetable imaginable, there were spring salads to die for. And…deserts… what more can I say! After lunch, with my family of origin and their families, the egg hunting began. Extended family arrived with more children for the event. Now, we meet at my sister’s house, gorge on a wonderful feast, and watch the grandchildren continue the tradition. What fun… what memories! Nothing beats celebrations with family. HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!
