The Jefferson County Lady Patriots softball team started the season 1-8. With a win over Morristown East Wednesday evening the Lady Patriots are 8-1 in their last 9 games. Jefferson County is arguably one of the hottest teams in East Tennessee and has now moved in to second place in the IMAC.

Jefferson County’s double headed monster of Leslie Odom and Madison Owens was at it again, allowing a combined 8 hits but 0 earned runs on the evening. The two combines for an ERA of 0.48, which is absolutely astonishing. To put that ERA number in perspective, Nolan Ryan whom most believe to be the best pitcher in MLB history, had an ERA of 3.19. Former University of Tennessee standout pitcher, Monica Abbott, had an ERA of 0.79 over her career at UT.

Jefferson County would lead after 1 inning 2-1 and 4-3 after 4 innings of play. The Lady Pats would lead 7-5 heading to the last inning and in the words of Head Coach Bekkah Massaro they were “lucky” to survive. The Lady Hurricanes were down to their last out in the seventh when they got a runner on with a single. Two errors by the Lady Patriots and the Hurricanes had bases loaded and threatening to score. The next batter would flyout to right field and the Patriots would hold on to gain their fifth conference win in a row, 7-5.
