Jefferson County Nominating Committee

The Jefferson County Commission Nominating Committee met at the Historic Jefferson County Courthouse on April 14th, 2014. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Tucker, with Commissioners Kesterson, Estes, Musick, Turner, Solomon and Blevins present at the meeting. After an invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance, the Agenda was approved, as were the Minutes from the March 10, 2014 meeting with a motion from Musick and a second from Solomon. Chairman Tucker then spoke briefly concerning the County Board of Equalization, letting the other Nominating Committee members know that all the candidates must be approved during that meeting because members must be chosen in April and attend training in May. Tucker said there had been little time to advertise for the positions, but they had received a few.

Chairman Tucker moved to the first item on the agenda, the Agricultural Extension Committee. The Committee is comprised of seven members, three from the County Commission, two local farm men and two local farm women. The Nominating Committee provides four nominees, with the largest city, Jefferson City, providing one. Commissioners Anna Barriero, John Neal Scarlett and Terry Dockery are members from the County Commission, along with Bryan Stooksbury, Bill Hickman, Deloris Shannon and Susan Gass. All four farm representatives were agreeable to serving another term and were approved by a vote of the Nominating Committee.

The next item on the agenda was the County Board of Equalization. Chairman Tucker stated that he had attempted to contact all current members of that board and had received a letter of interest from Geraldine Carmichael and an e-mail regarding Rodney Manning’s interest in joining the Board. After some discussion, Commissioner Solomon made a motion to nominate Mrs. Carmichael, Rodney Manning and current members Charles Briggs and Bob Hardin. The motion received a second from Commissioner Turner. Daniel Estes made a motion to nominate the two remaining current members, Hubert Henry and L. E. Smith, with a second from Turner. A vote by the Nominating Committee moved nominees Carmichael, Manning, Briggs and Hardin to a vote from the full County Commission.

The Alpha chart was the final item on the agenda, but due to a family illness of Chairman Mills, the item was rolled to the next meeting. Commissioner Turner then made a motion to adjourn, with a second from Commissioner Kesterson. Meeting Adjourned.
