The Lady Patriots out hit the #1 team in the state by more than double 12-5. However, for the Lady Pats they committed six errors to Gibbs none. That would ultimately determine the outcome as the Lady Eagles never trailed in the ball game and held off the Patriots late, to win it 6-3.

Jefferson County Head Coach Bekkah Massaro was disappointed in her teams’ performance in the field, “ Those first couple of innings it’s like an error-fest. It is like a broken record we tell them , Ladies if you keep making errors you can’t expect to win.” She added, “If you take those errors away I think this is a different game, I think we come out on top.” Massaro has made a challenge to her team on which team they want to be, “ Do we want to be the team that started the season 1-8, or do we want to be that team that was 9-1 those 2 weeks.”

Gibbs would score 6 runs in the first three innings of play and led 6-0 after 3. The Lady Pats could only manage 3 hits in the first 3 innings of play and seemed doomed to possibly get run ruled, however, the Lady Patriots would continue to fight and never seemed to give up. The pitching duo of Madison Owens and Leslie Odom would then retire 9 of the next 11 batters they faced but still trailed 6-0 heading in to the bottom of the sixth inning. That’s when the Lady Patriots really came alive. Owens would lead off the inning with a double, followed by singles from Odom and Allee West to plat Jefferson County’s first run. The Lady Patriots would plate 3 runs in the inning and cut the deficit to 6-3 heading in to the seventh with the top of their lineup coming around. Summer Hayes would lead off the seventh with a double, but that would be their last threat as they fell 6-3.
