Baskin Signs Free Agent Contract With Colts
Carson-Newman safety Anthony Baskin (Detroit, Mich.) has inked a free agent contract with the Indianapolis Colts, becoming the 40th C-N football player to continue his playing career in the National Football League.
Carson-Newman’s 40 NFL players are the most in the SAC. The other seven teams in the league have produced 42 NFL products all-time. Baskin becomes the 80th Eagle to play football beyond the college level.
Baskin played in six games in his senior year during an injury-hampered campaign. The bulk of his production came at the front end of the year when he had a string of four consecutive games with at least six tackles.
He made a career high five solo tackles in one-on-one coverage against Colorado Mines’ five-wide aerial assault in week to before touting a career best 12 tackles and an interception in a home game against Catawba.
Baskin tallied nine tackles against Mars Hill before exiting with an injury that would sideline him for seven weeks. He returned for the Eagles’ second round playoff game with Lenoir-Rhyne and promptly registered an eight-tackle game to conclude his career.
The Detroit, Mich.-native tallied 43 tackles for the year with 2.5 tackles for loss, a pick and a forced fumble.
He is C-N’s second straight undrafted free agent to sign with the Colts following All-SAC performer Larry Lumpkin in 2012.
