Slow Cooker Caramelized Onions

recipe-entreeCaramelized onions are a wonderful topping for burgers and pizza, a great addition to chicken wraps, and the basis for French onion soup. But they can take forever to cook on the stovetop, and are easy to burn if you don’t watch them carefully or cook them on too high of heat. This slow cooker version is fool proof – put in the sliced onions and butter, set your timer, and there you have it. Delicious, caramelized onions every time. And if you happen to have any leftover, they will freeze well for the next time you want them.

Ingredients

6 medium yellow onions

½ cup (1 stick) butter

Directions

Peel onions and slice into ½” wide rings. Place onions in slow cooker and top with tablespoons of butter.

Cover and cook on high 10-12 hours, until onions are dark brown and caramelized.
