Carson-Newman Offers New RN to BSN Online

Carson-Newman University announces new flexible option for nurses: RN to BSN
online.

Carson-Newman University is offering nurses with an
associate-level nursing degree the opportunity to pursue their Bachelor of
Science in nursing completely online, plus a site-based clinical experience.

“The Institute of Medicine has recommended an increase in the proportion of
nurses with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing by 80 percent by 2020,”
said Sue McBee, associate professor of nursing.

McBee says the RN to BSN program at Carson-Newman stands out in its focus on
leadership development, nursing ethics and character development, in-depth
nursing knowledge and application of the concept of social justice in
practice.

Open to nurses with an RN license, the RN to BSN online program can be
completed in a one, two, or three-year track. Students will complete 33
nursing credit hours as well as complete Carson-Newman’s liberal arts core.

Carson-Newman has offered an RN to BSN program, but it has been integrated
on campus with the traditional BSN program. McBee says this fall’s class
will be the first to begin the program online. Required clinical experiences
may be obtained at the student’s local medical facilities.

“Local hospitals are moving toward or have achieved Magnate Status, which
requires 80 percent BSN nurses in the clinical areas,” McBee said.

However, the program is for more than just local students. The online format
allows students to complete the program without ever stepping foot on
campus.

The University is now accepting applicants for fall 2014.
