Tusculum Softball Listed in NCAA Statistics

Tusculum Sports LogoThe Tusculum College softball team finished 13th in the nation in team earned run average according to the final 2014 NCAA Division II national statistics.

The Pioneers end the season nationally ranked in three team statistical categories, while All-South Atlantic Conference pitcher Kelly King was listed four times, individually.

Tusculum’s 2.07 team earned run average was the second lowest in the SAC and the fourth-best in program history. TC also boasted the third-best team fielding percentage in the league at .969, which was 20th in the country and second highest in school history. The Pioneers’ 0.31 triples per game are second in the SAC and 26th in NCAA II.

King, a senior right-hander from Nazareth, Pa., posted a 1.67 ERA in her final collegiate campaign, which was fifth in the conference and 30th in the nation. Her seasonal ERA was also the eighth lowest in program history. She also finished 45th in the country in wins (19 – T4th in SAC/7th in TC history), seventh in walks per seven innings pitched (0.77 avg.) and 19th in shutouts (8 – 3rd in SAC/1st in TC history).

In her two seasons at Tusculum, King recorded 15 shutouts, which are a new school record. Her 1.86 ERA and 33 wins are both the sixth in TC history. Her 188 strikeouts at Tusculum are the eighth most by a Pioneer. For her four-year collegiate career, including her first two seasons at Indiana (Pa.), she went 64-31 with a 2.01 ERA with 345 strikeouts and 29 shutouts.

Tusculum sophomore outfielder Carolyn Williamson (Knoxville, Tenn.), who earned All-SAC second team honors in 2014, finished the year with five triples which were second in the league and 24th in NCAA II.

The Pioneers ended the year with a 31-24 record, the program’s fourth consecutive 30-win campaign.

Tusculum College, located in Greeneville, Tenn., is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, USA and is a NCAA Division II member of the South Atlantic Conference. Tusculum, the oldest college in the State of Tennessee, sponsors 16 intercollegiate sports, including women’s lacrosse, which will be competing in its first season during the 2014-2015 academic year.

Tusculum, the 28th oldest college in the nation, is a liberal arts institution committed to providing a liberal arts education in a Judeo-Christian and civic arts environment, with pathways for career preparation, personal development and civic engagement. Approximately twenty-one hundred students are enrolled on the main campus in Greeneville and three off-site locations in East Tennessee.
