Knoxville Scottish Rite Foundation’s Annual Golf Tournament Announces Success with Annual Fundraiser

The Knoxville Valley of Scottish Rite Masons announced today that it’s annual golf tournament held yesterday at Three Ridges Golf Course in Knoxville has raised over $25,000 for various charities including; shoes for needy children, speech and hearing assistance for pre-school age children, ten annual $1,000 scholarships for college juniors who graduated from a high school within the Knoxville Valley’s 24 county area as well as wheelchair and assisted living amenities for persons who are not enrolled in assisted living or living in a nursing home. Scottish Rite officials are overwhelmingly pleased with the results of this year’s tournament that was funded by 104 sponsors from the region and 27 teams that played in the tournament. The event Chairman, Glenn Day, a 33º Mason of LaFollette said, “A man never stands as tall as when he stoops down to help a child”. “Over 4,200 pairs of shoes were handed out (for free) to children of the 24 counties in East Tennessee that make up the Knoxville Valley of the Scottish Rite” said Robert Reed, a 33º Mason and the General Secretary for the Scottish Rite Temple and its 3000 plus members.

The Scottish Rite Golf Tournament officials expect this successful event to greatly improve its ability to aid and assist needy children and elderly persons as well as create a greater public awareness of the charities the Masonic organization provides in the 24 counties that make up the Knoxville Valley of the Scottish Rite. Additionally the Scottish Rite hopes to attract the interest of Master Masons in east Tennessee who wish to petition for membership. Individual Masons from Knox County and surrounding counties took on this honorable endeavor via face to face solicitation of proprietors, business owners, churches, funeral homes, government officials and candidates among others to make this event a phenomenal success with almost half of the funds raised coming from Campbell County.

About The Scottish Rite:

The Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry is commonly known as the Scottish Rite. It is one of several appendant groups of the worldwide fraternity known as Freemasonry. Each Valley has up to four Scottish Rite bodies, and each body confers a set of degrees. In the Southern Jurisdiction these are the Lodge of Perfection (4°–14°),

Chapter of Rose Croix (15°–18°), Council of Kadosh (19°–30°), and the Consistory (31°32°). The Supreme Council confers the 33rd Degree of Sovereign Grand Inspector General.

The Scottish Rite is one of the two branches of Freemasonry in which a Master Mason may proceed after he has completed the three degrees of Symbolic or Blue Lodge Masonry.

About Freemasons:

Freemasonry is a fraternal organization that traces its origins to the local fraternities of stonemasons, which from the end of the fourteenth century regulated the qualifications of masons and their interaction with authorities and clients. The degrees of freemasonry retain the three grades of medieval craft guilds, those of Apprentice, journeyman or fellow (now called Fellowcraft), and Master Mason. These are the degrees offered by craft, or blue lodge Freemasonry.

The basic, local organizational unit of Freemasonry is the lodge of which almost every town in Tennessee has one.
