Tennessee Schedules Tobacco and Forage Field Day for July 17, 2014

The University of Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center at Greeneville will hold a Tobacco and Forage Field Day the afternoon of Thursday, July 17, beginning at 3 p.m.

The event, which is free to attend, features subject matter experts from the UT Institute of Agriculture and the University of Kentucky and includes two concurrent tours.

The tobacco tour will explore different aspects of burley production research, including new variety development, topping management, sucker control and managing pasture herbicides to reduce risks to tobacco. Good agricultural practices (GAP) certification trainingwill be available for those producers who have not yet been certified.

The forage tour will discuss proper calibration of sprayers and grain drills, how to accurately sample forage for testing and how to utilize forage test results when calculating appropriate rations for your cattle. Visitors will have plenty of opportunities to ask questions of the experts.    

Pesticide recertification points (Categories 1, 4, 10 and 12) and continuing education units (CEUs) for certified crop advisors will be available for those attending the tours.

Each tour will be presented two times throughout the evening. A trade show featuring private vendors and educational and informational displays will also be available for visitors to enjoy.
