carson-newman sports logoCarson-Newman’s play-by-play voice has finished in the top three for Stretch Internet’s Call of the Year.

Adam Cavalier, the contest’s inaugural champion, finished behind this year’s winner from Marygrove College for the program’s announcer’s final call of the volleyball program’s first ever conference win.  The winning entry can be found at this link.

Cavalier’s entry was for James Phillips’ 19-yard touchdown catch against Lenoir-Rhyne in the second round of the NCAA playoffs.  The pass was the first pass to a Carson-Newman tight end in 464 days at the time.

The Montgomery, W.Va.-native won the award the year before for his call of Ish Sanders’ buzz-beating three to defeat Lenoir-Rhyne.

Carson-Newman is the only school to send a repeat entry to the finals in the contest’s first two years of existence.  Also, with Michael Wottreng finishing in the top eight, the Eagles’ were the only school with multiple semifinalists in this year’s iteration of the award.
