Tennessee Announces Jeff Jarnigan as “Voice of Neyland Stadium”

The University of Tennessee announced today that Jeff Jarnigan is the new public address announcer at Neyland Stadium and will begin his new role when the Volunteers kick off their 2014 season against Utah State on August 31. Jarnigan follows the legendary Bobby Denton, whose iconic voice was well-known and revered by Volunteer fans during his 48 years of service in the same role.

Jarnigan has served as the public address announcer for men’s basketball at Thompson-Boling Arena for the past nine years as well as for the Dish Orange and White Game at Neyland Stadium for the last eight years. He also was the announcer for The Pride of the Southland Marching Band for a 12-year span.

“This was a daunting but rewarding task,” said Chris Fuller, Senior Associate Athletics Director. “We had a number of talented applicants and they all understood the challenge of following Bobby. We’re looking forward to many years with Jeff as the “Voice of Neyland Stadium, and his experience, professionalism, and passion for this role were clear during the audition process.”

Jarnigan is a native of East Tennessee who attended his first Tennessee football game on October 3, 1970. Bobby Scott led the Vols to a 48-3 victory over Army that day and created a Volunteer fan for life. Jarnigan is a member of the Fulton High School Wall of Fame, along with fellow Vols Jackie Walker, Bill Justus, and Ron Widby.

“Being chosen as the public address announcer at Neyland Stadium is an honor beyond my wildest dreams,” said Jarnigan. “It is impossible to replace Bobby Denton. His voice and delivery has been as much a part of Big Orange Saturdays as the Vol Walk, running through the T and Rocky Top. My goal is to strive to continue to make the stadium experience the best in America.“
