The Jefferson City Fire Department hosted a Kid’s Fire Camp to show the responsibilities and skills of Firefighter to potential First Responders. For three days, from July 16-18, campers were challenged both physically and mentally to hone their interest in fire safety. Structured like a real fire academy, it provided campers from ages 8-13 with a bird’s eye view into the life of a Firefighter. In addition to the fun physical challenges, campers learned the skills of basic CPR and first aid, as well as fire prevention plans. Zip lining with gusto, Firefighter’s style, was one of the highlights of the three day camp. The Kid’s Fire Camp is just one of many community outreach programs that the Fire Department hosts throughout the year and it has proven to be a successful way to make a serious impression, while having some serious fun, on the next generation of First Responders.
