Dakota Norton Named to GCAA All-American Scholar Team

Tusculum Sports LogoTusculum College’s Dakota Norton has been named to the 2013-2014 NCAA Division II Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar Team.

Norton is one of 74 Division II golfers in the country to be recognized by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). To be eligible, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70 percent of his team’s competitive rounds and have a stroke average under 78.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.2. Honorees must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

Norton, a Greeneville, Tennessee native, graduated from Tusculum in May with a cumulative grade point average of 3.55 while majoring in accounting. He is a member of the South Atlantic Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll, Tusculum Dean’s List, Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and Charles Oliver Gray Honors List. The Greeneville High School alum is also the recipient of the Bank of America Endowed Scholarship and the Mary Gertrude Fox Memorial Endowed Scholarship.

On the golf course, he finished second on the team with his 76.00 stroke average for his eight events. He accounted for four top-20 finishes, including runner-up performances at the State Farm Intercollegiate and the J. Ralph Hargett Memorial. His 36-hole score of 71-69=140 (-4) at the State Farm Intercollegiate is tied for the 14 th best in program history.

For his career, Norton posted a 77.17 scoring average, the 17 th lowest in school history. As a Pioneer, he recorded eight top-20 finishes, including three times in the top-10.

TusculumCollege, located in Greeneville, Tennessee, is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, USA and is a NCAA Division II member of the South Atlantic Conference. Tusculum, the oldest college in the State of Tennessee, sponsors 16 intercollegiate sports, including women’s lacrosse, which will be competing in its first season during the 2014-2015 academic year.
