IDB Votes To Buy Options For Potential Industrial Property

The Jefferson County Industrial Development Board met on Friday, August 22, 2014 in the lowest floor of the Jefferson County Health Department.

The Meeting was Called to Order by Board Chairman Masters. Minutes were Approved with a Motion from Board Member Keck and 2nd from Board Member Duignan. No financial report was submitted for approval.

Under Old Business, the Board was informed that work is still pending on the contract for engineering services and will be completed for review at the next meeting.

In New Business, discussion regarding property that was offered to the IDB for possible site development, four parcels were ruled as unsuitable for the intended purposes. Two parcels, both in White Pine, were deemed to be suitable. Bell Road, which has two owners for a combined acreage of around 434, and Roy Messer Highway, with three owners and acreage of 434-574 ( two tracts would be needed to fulfill site access purposes), were the two sites under consideration. TVA developed the report on the possible sites as a desktop preliminary review for the Industrial Development Board.

Other potential sites under consideration were the New Jersey Zinc site and flat gap road. Board Members were concerned with the viability of the sites and the amount of unusable acreage of the White Pine sites. Several other sites were considered and discussed on the merits of viability.

With a Motion from Board Member Kisabeth and 2nd from Keck, the Board Approved a one year $1,100 option for purchase for the Laurence and Ruth Ann Cameron property, with a request for a longer than 180 day extension period. The property in question is located at 2508 Valley Home Road.

The Board also agreed to exercise a free option offered by owner on property located in White Pine.

Director of EDOC Wagley stated that Fit USA is reporting good growth, VITACOM is on pace with new renovation, the shop at home campaign is continuing and McSpadden is completing signage plans.
