Judge Sloan Swears In Sheriff’s Department & Circuit Court Clerk

Jefferson County Sheriff GW “Bud” McCoig, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department Detective’s and Officers, Circuit Court Clerk Penny Murphy, her staff and Court Commissioners were officially sworn in on Thursday, August 28, 2014 by Judge Dewayne Slone.

The ceremony took place in the Courtroom of the Justice Center and was held prior to the September 2nd swearing in of County Officials to allow for continuity of service and administration.

Sheriff McCoig stated

“We are looking forward to serving the citizens of Jefferson County for another four years. During the previous four years, my department has worked diligently to lower crime and keep our residents safe and I am proud of the result of that work. The employees of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department are dedicated to Jefferson County and will continue to be visible in the community and serve and protect the citizens. I am humbled by the faith of the residents of Jefferson County and I give God the glory.”

Circuit Court Clerk Murphy said that she will also participate in Tuesday’s ceremony, however the early swearing in will eliminate any questions. Murphy stated

“I am very proud of my staff and am honored to serve the people of Jefferson County for another four years. We pledge to work diligently for the citizens and to strive to continue to provide professional service to Jefferson County.”

Judge Sloan praised the Sheriff’s Department and the Circuit Court Clerk for their professionalism and the attention to safety in and out of the Courtroom.
