The Maury Middle School Hornets used a great defensive effort and a very efficient offense to beat the White Pine Cylones 47-6 in Middle Eight Conference action Tuesday night. “ Our defense sets the tone for the ball game, we live off of that.” Head Coach ,Greg Manis said. He added “ We had so many hard hits out there tonight, just…..” as he shook his head applaudingly.

Maury would get things started with a 3 and out on the defensive side and later score on a 1-yard plunge by Justin Lowery. That would be the only score for either team in the 1st quarter. Due to the field clock being broken, the referees were keeping the time on the field and there was only 7 plays ran in the first quarter. Maury did not waste anytime in the 2nd quarter scoring 24 points en route to a 32-0 halftime advantage for the Hornets. Justin Lowery struck again in the 3rd quarter, this time taking the opening 2nd half kickoff back for a touchdown. The Hornets led 40-0 and in control of every aspect of the game. Josh Miller would round out the scoring for the Hornets with a 35- yard scamper in to the endzone. White Pine’s, Tanner Atkins, would score from 1-yard out to make the score your final, 47-6.
