WSCC Welcomes New Faculty, Staff

Walters State logo 450Walters State Community College has announced new faculty and administrators hired as the 2014-15 academic year begins.

Gerald Robert Austin of Greeneville has been named the director of workforce development welding education and training. He is a graduate of the U.S. Navy C-1 Welding School and Kingsbury Vocation Center in Memphis. He was previously employed as maintenance welder for Packaging Corporation of America in Counce, Tenn. He was also a welding instructor for Northeast Mississippi Community College.

Justin Ball of Newport has been named coordinator of enrollment development. He holds both a B.S. and M.B.A. from Carson-Newman University. He was previously employed as a sales representative for Morristown Driver’s Service.

Joy Carter of Knoxville has been named instructor/director of the Surgical Technology Program. She holds an A.A.S. from High Tech Institute and a B.S. from Anthem Career College Online. She was previously employed as the program director/instructor of surgical technology at Virginia College in Knoxville.

Kelly Ann Craft of Sevierville has been named assistant professor of nursing. She holds an A.S. from Walters State, a B.S. from Tusculum College and a M.S. from East Tennessee State University. She was previously an RN case manager coordinator/supervisor for Leconte Medical Center in Sevierville.

Jerri Leigh Helton of Rogersville has been named an instructor of nursing. She holds an A.A.S. from ETSU, a B.S.N., M.B.A. and M.S.N., all from King College. She was previously an adjunct faculty member at Walters State and a quality manager for Wellmont Holston Valley in Kingsport.

Amy Jackson of Morristown has been named the WIA youth case manager for Hamblen County. She holds a B.S. from Berea College and a M.S. from ETSU. She was previously a teacher for the Hamblen County School System.

Paul Ludwig of New Market has been named an instructor of English. He holds both an A.A. and an A.S. from Walters State, and a B.A. and M.A. from ETSU. He previously worked as a writing coach for the Union County School System and as an adjunct instructor at Walters State.

William Lawrence Monette of Greeneville has been named the WIA youth case manager for Cocke County. He holds an A.S. degree from Mesa Community College, a B.S. degree from Arizona State University and a M.S. degree from Arizona State University. He was previously employed as a guidance counselor and teacher for the Hawkins County School System.

Jennifer Lynn Pearson of Sevierville has been named instructor of English. She holds a B.A. from the University of North Carolina and a M.A. from East Carolina University. She was previously an instructor at Fayetteville Technical Community College in Fayetteville, N.C.

Carol Powell of Morristown has been named RX/TN grant completion coach. She holds a B.B.A. from Marshall University and a M.S.Ed. from the University of Wisconsin. She has completed an internship with Walters State. Powell retired from the U.S. Army with the rank of lieutenant colonel and 27 years of service.

Audrey Renne Shoemaker of Chuckey has been named reference/emerging technologies librarian. She holds a M.A. from Iowa State University and a M.S. from the University of Illinois. She previously worked as a part-time reference librarian at Walters State.

Virgil John Henry Vaughn of Franklin has been hired as the director of server systems in Information and Education Technologies. He holds three A.S. degrees from John C. Calhoun Community College and a B.S. degree from Tennessee State University. He was previously employed as user services manager at Tennessee State University in Nashville.

Matthew Westwood of Morristown has been named an instructor of psychology. He holds an A.A. from Schoolcraft College and both a B.S. and M.S. from the University of Michigan. He previously worked as an adjunct faculty for Macomb Community College in Warren, Mich., and Owens Community College in Toledo, Ohio.

Sheila Ann Williams of Tazewell has been named assistant professor of nursing. She holds an A.S. from Walters State, a B.S.N. from Lincoln Memorial University, and a M.S.N. from ETSU. She previously served as a nurse practitioner for Morristown Gastroenterology.

Amber Rhea Williamson of Sevierville has been named instructor of music. She holds both a B.A. and a M.A. from Southern Illinois University. She was previously employed as a part-time instructor at Rend Lake College in Ina, Ill., and as an adjunct faculty member at John A. Logan College in Carterville, Ill.

Joel Eric Wilson is Morristown has been named an instructor of English. He holds an A.A. from Broward College, and both a B.A. and M.A. from Florida Atlantic University. He was previously employed as an adjunct faculty member at Walters State.
