Jefferson County Commissioner David Seal spent his first few days in office getting in touch with the needs of the nineth district and found that schools in that area are still in need of supplies. The economic plight of many families in the County makes purchasing items for the new school year difficult and most teachers are also spread thin trying to equip their classrooms. Funds allocated to the Department of Education meet the largest needs first and often there isn’t anything left over to supply the smaller items that are used during the school year. Seal requested that Talbott and Mount Horeb Elementary School get a list together of wishes, wants and needs in hopes that reaching out to the community will provide some of the items on the list. Generous individuals or organizations that would like to donate should contact the school or a representative for drop off instructions. Items can also be dropped off at the office of the Jefferson County Post located at 1237 Gay Street in Dandridge (across from the Historic Jefferson County Courthouse) during regular business hours or calling 566-8656.
