Appalachian Electric Cooperative announced the appointment of the newest member of the Co-op’s Board of Directors. Jefferson City resident Mark Isom has been named to fill the unexpired term of the recently retired John Howell.

“We couldn’t be more pleased to welcome Mark to our Board,” says AEC General Manager Greg Williams. “He has a track record of demonstrated leadership and brings a wealth of experience to this oversight position. Members residing within our 2nd District will be well-represented and the Cooperative as a whole will benefit greatly from his business background and the principled guidance he will provide.”

Isom is the owner/founder and President/CEO of Premiere Building Maintenance Corporation, a Knoxville-based company that offers contract services in a wide range of areas—from facility management to janitorial services to construction clean-up. With annual revenues approaching $18 million, Premiere’s 400 employees currently service and manage more than 600 buildings in eight states.

He received a degree in Business Management from Carson Newman College in 1985—and was recognized as the college’s “Distinguished Alumni of the Year” in 2010. He has completed executive training at Northwestern University and Dartmouth College and holds a number of professional certifications.

He serves on the Boards of Innovation Valley, Inc., as well as the Jefferson County Soil Conservation District. He has received numerous honors in recognition of his business leadership. Isom is the past winner of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s “Small Business Person of the Year” for the state of Tennessee and also its “Contractor of the Year” award.

Along with his wife Debbie and children Hannah, 23, and Blake, 21, he has been a resident of Jefferson City for the past 18 years.

“I’m honored to be joining a great group of AEC Directors and will be working hard to make sure the Co-op continues its mission of providing safe, affordable, and reliable electricity for its members,” says Isom. “I’m also looking forward to meeting folks at the annual membership meeting on September 27th. With AEC’s 75th anniversary just ahead in 2015, this is an exciting time to be a part of the upcoming celebration of the Co-op’s rich heritage. Great things lie in store for AEC and its members.”
