After two weeks away from Leroy-Shannon field, the Jefferson County Patriots returned home for homecoming Friday night. Hannah Oakes was crowned homecoming queen, but Noah Carter could have arguably been named king on this night. The junior led the Patriots with 4 receptions for 83 yards and 3 touchdowns, while leading Jefferson County to their first win of the season, 28-14. “We are a lot more dynamic with him out there, where we can get him the ball in space and let him do what he does.” Cobble said of his Junior wideout.

Sevier County transfer, Austin Jenkins, would get his first career start under center for the Patriots. After his first pass attempt fell incomplete, his second was much more productive as he found Carter on a corner route for a 14-yard Patriot touchdown.

Seymour’s next possession was a gift, if you will. On 4th and 5 Seymour would have to punt, however a roughing the kicker penalty would give them new life. During the same possession on 3rd and 25 on what appeared to be a busted play, Clayton Ogle tossed a long pass to Devante Farmer who took it 73-yards for an Eagles’ touchdown. “ That’s been one of their biggest plays throughout their season, is stuff breaks down and 15 (Ogle) is able to flip it over them.” Cobble added, “And they got us a couple of times.”

In the 2nd quarter with 9:03 left, Jenkins again would find Carter for a Jefferson County touchdown, this time from 37-yards out and the Patriots would lead for good at, 14-7. The ensuing kickoff was fumbled by Seymour and Jefferson County was back in business from the 26-yard line. Lightning struck quickly, as on the very next play, Jenkins would again find Carter for the duo’s third touchdown connection of the night and Jefferson County led Seymour at halftime, 21-7.

As for Jenkins, he would finish the 1st half 7-12 for 112 yards and 3 Touchdowns. “Jenkins can the ball out consistently to our playmakers” Cobble said of his signal caller. He added, “He obviously did great things with the ball tonight.”

The 2nd half was a little calmer as neither team scored until with 1-minute remaining in the 3rd quarter, Dakota Cody carried 5 or 6 Eagles into the endzone from 5-yards out giving Jefferson County a 28-7 lead. Seymour would add a desperation touchdown late to give you the final of , 28-14.

The Jefferson County ground game tallied 243 yards on the night, led by Michael Ealy who carried the ball just 5 times for 61 yards. Treyson Mills would add 52 yards on 7 carries, while Spencer Randles carried the ball 10 times for 42 yards. Junior Dakota Cody ran the ball 5 times for 41 yards and a touchdown.

Austin Jenkins would finish the night 8-18 for 112 yards and 3 touchdowns. Other than Carter, Gorel Soumare finished with 2 catches for 10 yards, while Treyson Mills had one catch for 17 yards.

The Patriot defense would only allow 209 yards for the contest including 110 yards through the air. Jefferson County returns home next Friday night looking to improve on their 1-3 mark against William Blount. Kickoff is at 7:30.
