Cain Announces Candidacy For Jefferson City Council

Mitch Cain

Mitch Cain

I’m Mitch Cain and I would like to announce my decision to run for a second term as councilman for the City of Jefferson City. I believe that having roots in the local community gives me a useful point of view when it comes to carrying out the task of representing your interests on our City Council. I am a native of Jefferson County and have lived in Jefferson City for over 35 years. My wife Ginger Millard Cain and I have three children. I attended Carson-Newman College, received technical certification at Nashville Technology Center, and continued my education in religious studies at Emory University’s Chandler School of Theology. My Christian faith is very important to me and it influences the decisions I make in my personal life, my career, and as a public servant. I had the wonderful opportunity to serve as a Youth Pastor in our community for over 25 years, and my wife and I are active members of Panther Springs United Methodist Church.

I have been employed by Appalachian Electric Cooperative for the past 30 years; my current position is that of Member Services Director. My broad and long-standing involvement in our community has given me an understanding of local needs that I bring to the decision-making process. I am a graduate of Jefferson County Adult leadership and the East Tennessee Regional Leadership program. I have served on the Jefferson County Urban Growth Committee, the Jefferson City Industrial Board, and as Vice-Chair of the Jefferson City Regional Planning Commission. I am currently chairing the 2014 United Way campaign for Jefferson County.

During my first term as Councilman, I am pleased to have had a role in bringing about many accomplishments that have been beneficial to City residents. Successfully changing the lease agreement for our local hospital, purchasing a new fire engine, hiring a new Police Chief and additional patrol officers, paving roads and building the new Jefferson City Library are some of the actions I’ve been honored to have been associated with. However, I believe it’s important to look beyond what we’ve done in the past and challenge ourselves to do more.

Looking ahead, I see many opportunities to make Jefferson City a place that our children and grandchildren will be proud to call home. I have been deeply involved in the re-development efforts of the downtown district and have led efforts to sustain and attract economic development to our city. Working to bring good-paying jobs for city residents will be key to the future health of our community. Together we can continue to bring about the kind of balanced growth, conservative spending and strong leadership that will move Jefferson City forward.

City government requires strong leadership and open communication. Since you first placed your trust in me back in 2010, that’s what I’ve tried to bring to Jefferson City and its citizens. I believe the most important part of being a leader is listening to citizens and neighbors as they share their concerns, hopes, and dreams for our community. I would like to continue that journey and that’s why I’m asking for your support. This year, early voting begins October 15th and the general election is November 4th. I hope you will join me in exercising your right to vote. Some people downplay the importance of local elections, but I can promise you that your participation in the upcoming election has the potential to make a tremendous difference in the quality of life here in our community.

I have the experience, the leadership, and the heart to work hard to make the coming years the best they’ve ever been for the citizens of Jefferson City.

I would humbly ask for your support and your vote during this election. Thank you.
