The True Spirit of Halloween

Really 300xWith Halloween on the doorstep, I’d like to take a pause to point out a simple truth. These are the moments that make life worth living. Nothing takes a back seat to holding your little zombie’s hand as they march about in a frenzy of sugary desire. To be clear, I’m not talking about Halloween itself. It’s the time with our family that matters. Whether it’s watching a Thanksgiving parade with your grandchild as the turkey crackles away in the oven or singing Christmas carols with your kids as you hold hands and drink hot cocoa, the beauty is in the love. These are the moments that forge unbreakable bonds and carry us through the darkest of moments. Take some time, clear your thoughts, and enjoy.

I could tell you about the time my daughter dressed as a Tootsie Roll and proudly proclaimed to anyone who would listen that she eats her own kind. I could tell you about the time a group of Cub Scouts crawled through a haunted house clinging to their parents’ legs as the parents laughed so hard they risked wetting themselves. I could tell you about forty of my daughter’s friends dancing to Thriller and dropping enough marshmallows in my yard to transform my dog into a Tasmanian devil of confectionary fervor. But none of that matters to you. I hope you take the time to make your own memories and enjoy them as much as I enjoy mine.
