Advice for Getting a Journalism Degree

Asked AnsweredI am a high school junior and am interested in studying Journalism in college. What advice do you have for getting into the best school?

It is nice that you already have a career direction at this early stage in life. My best advice would be to take the ACT early and be sure to keep an eye on application deadlines. Beyond the top tier schools and, of course, those that are at the bottom of the academic list, most schools carry the same weight with employers. I would suggest making every effort to get in print as soon as possible. If you have your heart set on a particular school it is best to apply early and give the admissions office a call to get a little perspective on what they are looking for in potential students. Some schools will not transfer certain core classes and others are looking for strength areas. If you are looking for scholarship money, sometimes you can find a great school that is noted for a particular area, such as engineering, that is looking for some academic balance. Good luck in your search!
