WSCC Community Band Plans Holiday Concert November 16

Seventy-five musicians are eager to be the first to wish you a merry Christmas. Join the Walters State Community Band Nov. 16 for an afternoon of holiday music before all of the hustle and bustle begins.

The band will perform at 3 p.m. on Nov. 16 in the “Z” Buda Assembly Hall and Gymnasium, located on the Morristown campus. Admission is free.

The band is comprised of both students and community members who want to continue to be active in a concert band. A few outstanding high school students are also invited to join. Instruments include oboes, flutes, clarinets, bass clarinets, bassoons, alto and tenor saxophones, a baritone saxophone, trumpets, French horns, trombones, euphoniums, tubas and percussion.

Tom Shupe, who retired after many successful years directing high school bands, serves as conductor.

Music planned this year includes some patriotic tunes including Grundman’s “American Folk Rhapsody #1” and Holst’s “Moonside March.” After a short intermission, the band will focus on holiday favorites. Rickketts’ “Belles of Christmas,” Smith’s “Celtic Carol,” and Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride” are featured compositions.
