Local Schools Celebrate Veteran’s Day

Veteran’s Day at Maury Middle School

Maury Middle School was one of several local schools that hosted events for Veteran’s Day. Carson Newman University provided the Color Guard for the November 11, 2014 recognition service. The Maury Middle School Band, Chorus and Maury Singers heavily participated in the afternoon service and the honorees enjoyed a Choral Reading Tribute, as well as the musical offerings. Maury Middle School teacher Elaine Browning provided the introduction of the Keynote Speaker LTC Gregory Stephens, CNU Army ROTC. Quilts of Valor were on hand to honor local Veterans with their beautiful handmade items. Melissa Gaut, President of the Lady’s Auxiliary of Foreign Wars presented 1st place Patriot Pen winner Erica Roach with a $200 award and 2nd place winner, Gracen Henry with a $100 award. Principal Michele Walker gave the welcome to local Veterans and provided the closing remarks for the ceremony.
