How Long Do Real Christmas Trees Last?

Asked AnsweredI know that a lot of people are putting up their Christmas trees and I would love to go ahead and decorate mine as well. The problem is that I have gotten a real tree for the past few years and my family really enjoys the real tree smell. I know that some people put their real trees up early and was wondering just how long one will last?

Real trees are nice but they do have limits to how long they will last. Professional gardeners contend that a real tree can stay nice for about one month, if cared for correctly. They suggest cutting a bit off the bottom of the tree before putting it into the stand. Keeping it heavily watered is the key to keeping the tree fresh and extending its’ life. With that being said, it may be impossible to even find a real tree now, unless you can find a tree farm open. Most lots will not open until around Thanksgiving, which would allow the tree around one month decorated. Until then, go ahead and decorate the rest of the house and that way you can have the best of both worlds- a real tree and an early decorating season.
