Jefferson City’s Hometown Christmas Set For December 13

Jefferson City Christmas 2014Jefferson City and the Historic Mossy Creek District have announced this year’s Jefferson City Hometown Christmas festivities will take place on December 13.  While you can still expect the annual Christmas parade that is held on this second Saturday of December, this year the city will also include a wide array of additional holiday activities to make it a day long event for the whole family.

Jefferson City’s Hometown Christmas will take place from noon until 7:00 pm on Main Street.  The event will include  food, entertainment, photos with Santa, carriage rides through the city, door prizes and will conclude with the lighting of a 20 foot Christmas tree at dusk.   Local downtown businesses and residents are encouraged to decorate and help create a festive atmosphere for this growing event.

“We are so pleased to be able to continue to shine light on the downtown with events like this and kick off the holiday season, said committee member and past President of the Historic Mossy Creek District, Michael Evon.  “While there is a lot of work to do in the historic district, we feel like these events help to bring energy to a growing movement to help revitalize the downtown.”
The Jefferson City Christmas parade, which will start and end in the Historic Mossy Creek District, will begin at 2:00pm, but will be surrounded by Jefferson City’s Hometown Christmas activities before and after.  The parade is free to participants and line-up will begin downtown at 1:00 pm. Those Participating should fill out an entry form, available at City Hall and other locations downtown.

The city hopes to expand and develop these events in the future to bring holiday visitors to the the downtown and the city as they continue to work to implement a master plan to revitalize the aging district.  The location for the Christmas tree lighting celebration on Main Street is the proposed site for a park square that could offer a train depot inspired pavilion,  large stage, restroom facilities, as well as other features for future events.    For more information or to get involved please contact the city at 865.475.9071 or visit the organization’s website at OldMossyCreek.com.
