The Historic Town Square in Dandridge was ablaze with festive spirit on Thursday evening, as the Dandridge Ministerial Association hosted their annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. Dandridge Elementary School students lent their voices to some traditional seasonal favorites and the crowd joined in, as well. Biblical passages outlining the Christmas story were read, followed by hymns related to the readings. Dandridge Town Administrator Melissa Peagler, replacing an ill Mayor George Gantte, was on hand to offer the welcome. She, along with her daughter and Jefferson County Fairest of the Fair Chloe Hubbard, had the honor of lighting the Town Christmas tree, which is a stately 14 ft fir harboring 1300 multi colored lights. This is the first time in several years that the Town has had a real Christmas tree to light at its’ Christmas in Dandridge kick off ceremony. Locals and visitors are encouraged to take an evening drive through the Historic Town Square and view the majestic beauty that is located across from the Historic Jefferson County Courthouse, beside the Jefferson County Post, who donated the tree to the Town. Following the ceremony, Walt’s Hitchin’ Post Restaurant hosted refreshments of hot chocolate and cookies.
