Barbie Frozen Out

Just in time for Black Friday, the National Retail Federation has released its’ list of most desired toys for 2014, according to a survey of more than 6,500 consumers in November 2014. For boys, LEGO topped the list of most desired toys this Christmas, followed by generic cars and trucks. While dolls reign supreme with girls, taking the top five spots on the list (Frozen, Barbie, Generic Dolls, Monster High and American Girl), boys appear to have a more eclectic wants this year. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Video Games and Hot Wheels occupy the next three spots and the remaining five are held by two gaming consoles ( Xbox One and Playstation 4), Transformers and remote controlled vehicles. Tied for number ten on the boys’ wish list are Marvel Action Figures and a tablet (Apple/iPad). Rounding out the girls’ top ten are LEGO, tablet, My Little Pony, Disney Doc McStuffins, and apparel.

According to the National Retail Federation, around 42% of consumers reported that they will be purchasing toys this shopping season. More than half of those responding are looking to spend the same amount on gifts as they did last year, however of those that are intending to up the spending this season, men outnumbered women with nearly 25% of men expecting to dip deeper into their pockets, while only 18% of women are looking to increase last year’s budget.
